The Gerrard India Bazaar BIA will be trailblazing into the future, launching their first-ever VIRTUAL TD Festival of South Asia, in October. This decision to shift to a virtual event is in alignment with the City of Toronto’s guidance, and the advice of public health officials,

 

The TD Festival of South Asia begins October 4th offering a week of free live performances, workshops and other activities open to all from members of the Gerrard East community. Tune in each day between 6 pm to 7 p.m.

 

The TD Festival of South Asia launches with the virtual Kickoff Party on October 4th, 2020 at 6:00 PM. This live stream event will preview  Festival events and exhibitions, provide opportunities to chat live with neighbours, offer interactive workshops,  share a virtual tour, and more…

Known as the city’s prime “Little India”, the festival promises to spice up your senses with sumptuous cuisines from close to 50 member restaurants, as well as providing unbelievable bargains at every store in the festival frame (from clothing, grocery, appliances, hair, and beauty). From art galleries to Indian fashion & jewelry, to salons specializing in henna, balayage and lash extensions, to treasures only available in Toronto’s Little India — we’ve got it all!

Festival highlights:

 

Amin Dhillon – Our FSA host is a sought after national reporter, producer, podcaster, and emcee. Amin’s warm personality and energetic stage presence has made her a crowd favourite for hosting live events. From interviewing politicians to celebrities, Amin has brought viewers exclusive interviews and behind-the-scenes access from all of the biggest events. Born and raised in Winnipeg Manitoba, Amin first graced the stage as Miss India Worldwide Canada before successfully crossing over to the media world.

 

Ketaki Sathe – Renowned Kathak (Indian Classical Dance) dancer known for her expressions, grace, footwork and knowledge in the art. She has performed globally over more than 200 shows in countries like India, South Korea, Norway, and Canada. She conducts dance classes in Toronto

Pushpinder – Frontman of a leading Bollywood band, performing across North America. From old melodies and ghazals to the latest Bollywood dance hits. Now taking special requests.

 

Chaand Dance Group – Bollywood and semi-classical inspired dance group choreographed by Chandani Gooroocharan. Inspiring passion within her students, and preserving the rich history of Indian culture within the West Indian community. They have performed for many religious events and cultural events.

 

Paromita Kar – She will be presenting a modern and traditional Afghan dance, as well as a traditional Rajasthani dance in traditional dress. 

 

Karen Gill – Founder of ‘Heal with Kare’ takes us through a traditional flow, and also introduces us to the benefits of Aerial yoga – A fun and exciting way to practice yoga. . It combines traditional mat yoga with postures suspended in silk hammocks. By utilizing gravity and balance, you can modify and deepen the practice of fluid movements as well as strengthen your physique and mental awareness. It is a wonderful way to bring life to traditional and modern asanas (poses).

 

Bollywood Dance School – Bringing together the hottest new trends and talents of Desi Fusion Dance on a global scale, Bollywood Dance School is committed to connecting dance communities from all across the globe!

Just Prince – A talented independent musician who has performed internationally including India( chandigarh, delhi and manali), winning the MTV battle of bands in 2017. He has previously performed during our live festival of south Asia and other local events. He has recorded and released 1EP and 2 singles and continues to work on releasing more new music.

 

Puja Amin – Owner and Director of Sanskriti Arts in Toronto and President of Bollycore! Awarded the Global Excellence award 2019 for the Best Dance and fitness studio in Canada, in Mumbai by the dance Diva Madhuri Dixit. After 17 years of spreading Indian dance and culture throughout Canada, this year has marked a new and humble beginning or Sanskriti Arts. It is the start of a ‘digital era’, embracing a fresh new approach to learning and entertainment, bringing dance and fitness classes online to the Global community. 

 

Adam Williams – Founder of ‘Clayspace Studio’ takes us through the ritualistic process of an experienced sculptor. Exploring this creative medium is a great way to express your inner artist and even produce a one of a kind gift for friends or family! By attending workshops like those offered st Clayspace, you can train and deepen your skillset to work towards more advanced pieces.
